🎉 Our first paper from the Defect Spectroscopy Research Lab is published!
Can organic spacer engineering always tune the properties of 2D perovskites? Our results show that once deep defects dominate the inorganic framework, the answer is no.
Using light-modulated surface photovoltage spectroscopy, we compared Pb-based and Pb-free Ag–Bi layered perovskites. While spacer selection effectively tunes charge separation in the Pb-based materials, deep defect states dominate the Ag–Bi systems—overriding the influence of the spacer.
A proud milestone for our new lab, and an important lesson for Pb-free perovskite design: control the defects first, then engineer the structure.
Congratulations to Elyasaf Newman for his first paper, and the entire team!
