Meet the team

Our interdisciplinary team comprises Chemists, Physicists, Material & Electrical Engineers as well Computer Scientists, all dedicated to making ground-breaking research in the field of Defect Spectroscopy in Novel Semiconductors

Dr. Igal Levine

Group Leader

My name is Igal Levine, born and raised in Jerusalem, graduated from The Hebrew University Secondary School (LEYADA, class of 99`). After my army service, I completed a double degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in Ben Gurion University (“Nano track”) in 2008. I then continued to M.Sc. studies in the field of Molecular Electronics at the Weizmann Institute in the department of Materials and Interfaces, under the supervision of Prof. David Cahen (Thesis title: “Understanding electronic charge transport through self-assembled monolayers on ultra-flat aluminum surfaces”). After my M.Sc. studies, curious to see how life looks like in Industry, during 2011-2012 I worked at HP Indigo as an R&D chemist in the field of flexible packaging applications. From 2013 to 2018 I was a PhD student in the groups of Profs. David Cahen and Gary Hodes at the Weizmann Institute in the department of Materials and Interfaces. My PhD work was on “Electrical and phototransport properties of Halide Perovskite-based devices”. Between 2019 to 2023 I was a postdoc at the Helmholtz center for Materials and Energy in Berlin, Germany, in the group of Dr. Thomas Dittrich, focusing on advanced defect characterization methods in semiconductors.

In October 2023 I established the new Defect Spectroscopy Research Lab at the Institute of Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The main research aim of the group is to investigate defects and charge transfer processes in novel semiconductors using non-destructive experimental tools with unprecedented sensitivity.
