Do we always need electrical contacts to measure the CISS effect?

NO.

In our latest paper, we demonstrate that helicity-dependent charge separation in chiral materials can be measured directly—without metal contacts and without fabricating a complete device.

We are excited to share the second publication from our group, now published open access in Small:
“Contactless Detection of Giant Helicity-Dependent Photovoltage in Chiral 2D Perovskites”
We introduce circularly polarized time-resolved surface photovoltage spectroscopy (CP-TRSPV), a contactless method that follows how left- and right-circularly polarized light produce different charge-separation dynamics in chiral 2D perovskites—from nanoseconds to milliseconds.

By removing electrical contacts from the measurement, CP-TRSPV helps isolate the intrinsic response of the chiral material from contact resistance, interface defects, Schottky barriers, and device-architecture effects, and paves way to rapid assesment of chiral response in novel chiral materials.
